INDIANA, Gary. Scar Tissue.
New York: Calamus Books/GPNY, 1987

8vo (212 x 137 mm). [x], [2], 156, [8] pp. Signed on the half-title. In pictorial wraps with photographic portrait of Indiana on the rear wrap; edges a lightly toned, upper wrap just starting, minor shelfwear. Very good.

FIRST EDITION, association copy, signed on the half-title. Prior to this book, Indiana had published a (fairly commonly seen) pamphlet with Wedge press, containing his story “Shanghai” (also included in this volume), but this work served as his true debut.

Containing thirteen stories, the collection features Indiana’s distinctive voice and subjects, though the author is here still clearly exploring different approaches to fiction through his shifting narrative voices.

With a cover by Barbara Kruger and a portrait of Indiana by Lynn Davis, the book was published by Calamus Books, Larry Mitchell’s small press dedicated to gay literature, and an imprint of the Gay Presses of New York.

Extremely scarce, signed copies even more so.

PROVENANCE: Ira Silverberg
